Position: Oncology Dietitian
With 30 years experience as a registered dietitian and a board certified specialist in oncology nutrition, Shelly Kokkeler supports patients through the various stages of their cancer journey.
When cancer treatment triggers side effects that cause problems with eating and digestion, Shelly advises patients on how to add or remove certain foods in their diets to help ease discomfort.
Nutrition plays an important role in a patient’s health and well-being before, during and after treatment, she says.
A member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and the Oncology Nutrition Dietetic Practice Group, Shelly stays current with the latest nutrition information and makes evidence-based recommendations that are focused on the individual patient.
“When patients are having a difficult time eating or following dietary recommendations, I encourage and work with them to find a nutrition plan they can follow. Taking time to really listen to a patient is important in determining what they need.”
Outside of the clinic, Shelly enjoys gardening, cooking and quilting.
