Safely disposing of unused or expired medication is a common problem for patients. Law enforcement will host a Drug Take Back Day at sites across Oregon on Saturday, April 27. Any expired, unused or unwanted prescription drugs can be dropped off between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. at these sites in Lane County:
• Springfield Justice Center
• Eugene Police Department
• Lane County Sheriff’s Office
• Florence Police Department
• Junction City Police Department
• Coburg Police Department
• Cottage Grove Police Department
• Oakridge Police Department

The take back only includes pills and patches, not liquids, sharps or needles. This is a free and anonymous service, no questions asked.
Why is this important?
Unused or expired prescription medications are a public safety issue and can lead to potential accidental poisoning, misuse, and overdose.
According to the 2017 National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 6 million Americans misused controlled prescription drugs. The study shows that a majority of abused prescription drugs were obtained from family and friends, often from the home medicine cabinet. Proper disposal of unused drugs saves lives and protects the environment.
