With 30 years experience as a registered nurse, 14 of those years as a nurse practitioner in internal medicine and neurology, she’s assisted patients in all stages of illness, from critical care to recovery.

Patty believes in care that is tailored to an individual’s needs. She strives to provide an environment where patients feel comfortable asking questions and can leave each appointment confident that their needs are being met.

“Having the opportunity to care for patients and their families is truly a gift,” Patty says. “Working together as a team allows us to choose the best course of action for the patient and focus on a positive outcome.”  

When she’s not helping patients, Patty seizes every opportunity to enjoy Oregon’s outdoors. Gardening and landscaping are favorite pastimes. She also walks her two large dogs daily, so they won’t destroy her beautiful yard. Patty often bikes to work and has recently started participating in half marathons and triathlons.

Dr. Lonergan joined WVCI after spending 13 years in clinical practice in Kirkland, Washington. He was named Seattle Metropolitan magazine’s “Top Doctor” for Medical Oncology 2015, and is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He is a past president and current executive board member of the Washington State Medical Oncology Society.

Dr. Lonergan relocated to Eugene to be closer to his family and root for his collegiate alma mater, the Oregon Ducks. He plans to raise his family in Eugene, so they can camp, ski and hike the same trails he did as a child.

“Spending quality time face-to-face with my patients creates a better understanding for them of their diagnosis and treatment, and it gives me insight into their wishes and fears. Being allowed into a person’s life, to care for them during such a challenging time, is a privilege.”

She chose radiation oncology because of its precision in treating cancer and its ever-evolving advancements in technology.

“The dynamically changing field of radiation oncology, the pace at which we’re learning about cancer, and the treatments we’re able to provide patients is exciting.”

Dr. Dunn devotes her free time to her husband and two young boys. She and her family enjoy many outdoor activities, from fishing to hiking and kayaking to snowboarding. Dr. Dunn and her husband are both former collegiate track athletes and are thrilled to call TrackTown USA home.

Linn developed a special interest in gynecology after living in Malawi and South Africa. She broadened her focus to include oncology while working at the Knight Cancer Institute and she pursued a second Master’s degree in Public Health focusing on women’s health and population studies.

Linn believes in equitable patient access to health care, educating patients on their diagnosis, and improved quality of life through relief from symptoms, pain and stress that come with a cancer diagnosis.

As a co-investigator for numerous clinical trials on novel treatments for hematologic malignancies, and associate chair for the Hematology Research Program of US Oncology Research, Dr. Yasenchak avidly works to provide patients access to state-of-the-art clinical trials close to home.

"This is how real progress can be made in the fight against cancer," he says. "Few patients can afford to travel to major academic centers for their care and for access to cutting-edge research."

Trained at the Mayo Clinic graduate school, Dr. Yasenchak is a respected researcher who has also earned high honors for his skills as a physician, making the Top Doctor lists for both U.S. News & World Report and Portland Monthly Magazine.

In his free time, he enjoys running, fly-fishing and spending time with his wife and two children, a son and a daughter.

Dr. Anderson came to Oregon from Denver after earning two Resident of the Year Awards at Loyola University Medical Center and a Fellow Teacher of the Year Award in 2013 at the University of Colorado School of Medicine.

A strategic thinker, Dr. Sharman's research has helped position WVCI to have access to a variety of exciting new areas of research, including immunotherapy, targeted therapy and personalized medicine.

The lessons learned from hematologic malignancies often apply to many different cancers and Dr. Sharman enjoys seeing all cancer patients.

Dr. Fryefield is the medical director of Operational Excellence at US Oncology. He is a founding member of the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and serves as the current practice president. He is married to Dr. Catherine Kordesch, a Eugene pediatrician, and has three daughters.

Innovative, compassionate and hopeful, Dr. Joseph Fiorillo finds getting to know his patients and their families one of the greatest satisfactions of his work. Together, they create an individualized treatment plan.

A senior investigator in a Phase 3 Immunotherapy Vaccine Trial for Prostate Cancer, Dr. Fiorillo is also excited by the improving immunotherapy options for malignancies such as melanoma and lymphoma, as well as furthering similar therapeutic vaccination strategies for breast and ovarian cancers.

"Having trained and participated in many clinical trials at the National Cancer Institute, I am hopeful that, within our lifetime, we will be able to cure most cancers," he says, "and those we cannot cure, we will turn into manageable illnesses."

Dr. Fiorillo is involved in fundraising for various cancer research organizations, including Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Soroptomist, Our Place and the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

He is a lively conversationalist who enjoys hiking in Cascadia, all things musical and semi-competitive barbecuing.

Dr. Cho is a clinical instructor at Oregon Health & Science University Medical School and is the 2015 president-elect of the Oregon Society of Medical Oncology.

Treating cancer is a balancing act. In the mix of considerations, Dr. Glenn Buchanan puts special emphasis on effective intervention and quality-of-life decisions.

"I feel that the most important goal of any cancer treatment plan is quality of life, both during treatment and after," Dr. Buchanan says.

Open-minded, systematic and determined, Dr. Buchanan always spends time with his patients and their families, understanding them and their lifestyles.

"I get to know them," he says, "not just their medical problems." Because his goal is always to help people live better.

Dr. Buchanan has a special interest in lung and gastrointestinal malignancies, but he treats patients with all types of tumors.

In his off hours, Dr. Buchanan enjoys spending time with his wife and three children. He is fluent in Spanish, runs long distance and cycles. He enjoys fiction, plays the piano and has been known to write the occasional alternative song lyric.
