Dr. Fryefield chose radiation oncology because he is drawn to the balance between working closely with cancer patients and the technical demands of precision radiation therapy.
He is as optimistic as he is focused and driven, believing equally in science and honesty, as well as living in the moment - all crucial components in the care he provides his patients at a key time in their lives.
"I remind myself each and every day of the importance of providing the very best care for my patients," he says.
Dr. Fryefield stays up to date on both treatment and technology. He has a special interest in head and neck cancers, brain tumors, lung cancer and prostate cancer.
"It has been so very gratifying to see the dramatic improvements in radiation oncology during my career, and I look forward to even more exciting advances in the next few years," he says.
Dr. Fryefield is the medical director of Practice Quality and Efficiency at US Oncology. He is a founding member of the Willamette Valley Cancer Institute and served as medical director from 1998 until 2012. He is married to Dr. Catherine Kordesch, a Eugene pediatrician, and has three daughters.
An outdoorsman who enjoys fishing and a competitive master swimmer, Dr. Fryefield is a member and president of Emerald Aquatics in Eugene.
