Quality test results, right here
As a benefit to patients, Willamette Valley Cancer Institute operates its own laboratory, approved by the federal government for clinical testing. Having an in-house lab provides timely, accurate information to our physicians to assist them in delivering the best possible care for our patients.
WVCI medical oncologist Dr. Christopher Yasenchak serves as our laboratory director. Our staff also consists of medical technologists and lab assistants/phlebotomists. All have nationally recognized certifications, considerable experience and knowledge of clinical laboratory medicine.
Considered a high complexity lab, our laboratory includes two departments: chemistry and hematology. The chemistry department performs testing for the physiological condition of patients, while hematology involves the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients with disorders of the blood cells and blood-forming organs.
Our lab staff assists physicians during bone marrow aspiration procedures in the diagnosis of hematologic disorders, and they also help evaluate hematopoietic activity needed to monitor a patient's progress after bone marrow transplants. Testing not performed in-house is sent to other federally approved laboratories; health care insurance dictates where testing is performed.
WVCI's lab follows the standards established by the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Act (CLIA) of 1967 and Amendments of 1988, respectively. These regulations are constantly modified and updated. We are inspected every two years, and our quality assurance program and all documentation is monitored closely.
