Nominated for their care of patients, two doctors from Willamette Valley Cancer Institute were among 39 physicians who received “Guardian Angel” awards last week at Sacred Heart Medical Center’s “Doctors Day 2012.” Oncologists Benjamin Cho and Deborah Dotters accepted the awards with honor.

Gynecologic Oncologist Dr. Dotters said, “It's a very high compliment! I think it's something we all strive for – to do our best for our patients.” This is Dr. Dotters’ second Guardian Angel award.

Joanna Bartlett nominated Medical Oncologist Dr. Cho for the care he provided her mother when she was diagnosed with terminal liver cancer last summer.

“He's not only an extremely competent doctor, but he maintains compassion, warmth and humor in his interactions with patients,” Bartlett said. “I never expected to be sitting in a doctor's office with my mum, hearing she only had a few weeks to live. He somehow broke that news to us gently and reassuringly.”
